Black Friday 2024: What’s open, what’s closed on Friday? Banks, UPS, mail delivery, stock markets, malls, stores

Black Friday 2024 is Friday, Nov. 29.
It is an annual shopping event that takes place the day after Thanksgiving. The first recorded use of the term “Black Friday” was in 1869 when the U.S. gold market crashed.
There have also been other recorded uses of the term throughout history.
In the 1950s, Philadelphia police used the term to describe the chaos that took place the day after Thanksgiving due to crowds gathering for football games on Saturday, according to History.com.
Police would often work extra shifts because shoplifters took advantage of the chaos.
Black Friday was not viewed in a positive light until the late 1980s when retailers found a way to reinvent the term, which led to a day of dedicated, albeit chaotic, shopping.
Here is everything you need to know about what’s open and what’s closed on Black Friday 2024.
